The Flash star Grant Gustin took to Instagram to send a heartfelt congratulations to the cast and crew of Arrow after the series aired its emotional final episode. The CW show, based on the DC Comics character, finished up an eight-season run with an emotional, and action-packed, final installment. Gustin first appeared in the Arrowverse as forensic scientist Barry Allen, the alter ego of the Scarlet Speedster, on a season 2 episode of Arrow titled, “The Scientist.”

Since that initial appearance, Gustin’s Barry Allen and Stephen Amell’s Oliver Queen have crossed paths multiple times. As the Arrowverse grew, these crossovers became more elaborate, often extending over multiple episodes. These team-ups culminated in the CW’s most recent (and ambitious) event “Crisis On Infinite Earths,” where Barry witnessed, firsthand, the death of Oliver Queen in an emotional send-off for Amell’s character. Arrow’s series finale, which served as a eulogy for both Oliver Queen and the show, reunited the titular hero with his long-lost love, Felicity Smoak, in a moving tribute to their tragic romance.

After the finale aired, Gustin praised the cast and crew of Arrow on a “remarkable” run. In a message posted to his Instagram, the actor thanked the Arrow team for making him feel welcome whenever he worked on their show. The Flash star closed out his message saying he hopes they have “the opportunity to cross paths again.” The warm farewell was posted alongside an on-set photo of the entire cast and crew assembled on one of the show’s Vancouver-based sound-stages.

Amell initially wanted to leave Arrow after season 7 but changed his mind when he heard the plan for season 8. “My character’s had a chance over the first three episodes [of season 8] to reconcile with like five different characters, and that’s just really, really cool,” Amell told fans in a Facebook Live video in 2019. The filming character’s death, which happened in the midst of the “Crisis” crossover, was a bit of a let down according to Amell. The Arrow star expressed his frustrations on a podcast he recorded after filming on the series wrapped. “They were trying to wrap Caity [Lotz] and Grant [Gustin] before I shot the coverage of the scene where I died,” Amell explained. “Meanwhile, the f-cking Green Arrow was laying on a gurney trying to deliver his lines to something other than a f-cking tennis ball. So, there are lots of scenes where I’m acting and there just aren’t other actors there, and that is just not an acceptable way of creating the best product, from my perspective,” Amell added.

While Arrow may have finally emptied its proverbial quiver, the Arrowverse marches on. A newly-established multiverse allows the remaining Arrowverse shows to share the same Earth for the first time, which means Gustin’s The Flash will cross paths with other DC heroes for years to come. Plus, with a spin-off series called Green Arrow and the Canaries in the works, it might not be long before the Emerald Archer returns.
