Former Disney CEO Michael Eisner has weighed in on his opinion about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, admitting he prefers The Mandalorian TV series instead. It seems to be a modern tradition that the release of a Star Wars film elicits controversial opinions, especially considering the backlash sustained by those who hated The Last Jedi.
The Last Jedi haters were so loud and strong in their opinions that they harassed actor Kelly Marie Tran off social media, and their hatred seems to be hanging around for the recent release of The Rise of Skywalker. Although the final film in the Skywalker saga appeased many of those fans, there are still others who feel the film didn’t rise to their expectations. Others accused it of retconning events that happened in The Last Jedi. However, they seem to see The Mandalorian TV show a little differently: almost all fans seem to agree it’s good. Perhaps that’s because of showrunner Jon Favreau’s love for the material, or maybe it’s just because of Baby Yoda. However, now that the entire first season has premiered on Disney+, The Mandalorian seems to be pleasing even the most skeptical of Star Wars fans.
Now The Mandalorian has another fan, one with a higher profile. Eisner recently tweeted that he preferred The Mandalorian series over The Rise of Skywalker, a movie he found merely “acceptable.” Eisner tweeted:
Eisner was the head of Disney from 1984 to 2005, with many attributing his leadership to saving the company from financial ruin. Not only did he revive Disney’s animation department with hits such as Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, he also oversaw the production of many successful live-action movies, such as Pretty Woman and The Color of Money. Thanks to Eisner, Disney also made a killing in home video, as well as launched a successful cruise line. Eisner oversaw Disney’s partnership with Pixar, and under his reign, the company saw its profits soar. His success story began to falter in 2004 when he was fired as a Chairman, leading to him stepping down as CEO the following year.
Although Eisner wasn’t around when Disney acquired the Star Wars franchise, it’s still a safe bet to assume he understands all things Disney, including its current properties. His comments on The Mandalorian and The Rise of Skywalker are something to consider, and, likely, many Star Wars fans will agree with him.
