Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 introduces a ton of neat features including one that makes it easier for players to get their hands on a plethora of legendary loot. With every new season comes various different ways to play the game, and in Chapter 2 Season 2, Fortnite makes the player feel like a spy by having them break into highly secured facilities.

Inside these facilities, players will face off with NPC Henchmen and Bosses. Players have the opportunity to collect key-cards once inside these facilities that allow them to open vaults filled with high tier loot. But getting your hands on these key-cards can be dangerous, and may require a little instruction. Here is how to find, collect, and use vault key-cards in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2.

Where to find Key-Card in Fortnite

Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2 introduces 5 new major POIs. Each of them acts as a hideout or bunker for members of Team Ghost or Team Shadow. These POIs are heavily patrolled by NPC henchmen that roam around the premises, and each one has a Boss that drops a Key-Card when eliminated.

Make no mistake, these Henchmen are not like bots from Season 1. They have better aim, are more aggressive, and will alert others nearby if you are spotted. They deal a lot more damage than bots, and each one spawns in with 200 health and a loadout.

The five new locations are located all across the map, one in each corner and one in the center of the map on the island formerly known as Eye Land.

The new POIs are The Agency, The Grotto, The Yacht, The Rig, and The Shark. Each one will have a vault filled with loot and a Boss patrolling the location.

Bosses in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2

The first step to opening a vault is to obtain a key-card, and in order to get a key-card, you first need to kill the Boss at one of the new POIs. Each POI has its own unique boss that takes the form of one of the skins found inside the Battle Pass.

Bosses are harder to defeat than henchmen, and they are equipped with a gold Legendary weapon that deals loads of damage. Bosses have much better Aim, Damage, and Health than Henchmen.

A large portion of the potential damage can be avoided by either getting the jump on these Bosses before they notice you or by approaching them from behind wearing a Henchmen disguise. A new in-game feature is an ability for players to enter phone booths and exiting disguised as a Henchmen. These phone booths can be found at every new POI.

Once disguised, players will be able to roam freely around a location without drawing the attention of Henchmen and bosses. A player will lose the costume once they have fired a weapon or have taken damage. Disguises will also allow players to enter locked doors and chests that require the costume or downed Henchmen to open.

Once a Boss has been eliminated they will drop their Legendary weapon along with a key-card that grants the player access to that location’s vault.

Finding a vault in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2

Vaults can usually be found in the lower levels of the new locations, usually heavily guarded by Henchmen and some are guarded by turrets that deal massive damage and have a large amount of health. However, the new POIs are fairly large and have complex floor plans so it can be easy for a player to get lost or find it hard to locate a vault. Luckily, key-cards have a built-in GPS that leads players to vaults once collected.

Once a player collects a key-card after defeating a boss a blue dotted line will extend from the player showing them the direction they need to go to locate the vault. The player must be holding the key-card in their hands to see this blue line. Once there, avoid the turrets by building walls or ramps and use the key-card to open the vault.

It takes a few seconds for the vault to open, and once the key-card has been used an alarm will sound letting nearby players know that the vault is being opened. Also, key-cards are a one-time use item meaning it will disappear from the player’s inventory once used and must be used at the specific vault at the location the card was collected.

Inside the vault in Fortnite Chapter 2 Season 2

You may be asking “Are vaults worth all the trouble you have to go through to open them?” and the answer is yes, especially in duos or squad matches. Vaults contain a large amount of high tier loot, enough to furnish three or four players with epic and legendary items as well as half-shield, minis, and full medkits.

It is important to note that there is no way to get inside a vault without a key-card. The walls of a vault are indestructible, and a downed henchman cannot be scanned to gain access to a vault. Vaults do not allow players to build near their entrances, and also do not allow players to build inside of them.

Vaults will always appear in the same location, so players who route their drops will not need to go searching for a vault every time they collect a key-card if they already know where it is located.

Every vault is different, but will also have a ton of loot. Some vaults have additional ways to heal yourself or your team, others have escape routes. But regardless of which vault you find yourself in, the reward is always worth the risk.
