In Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 2 is introducing players to a plethora of new player skins to unlock throughout the new season. From a character that turns weapons and vehicles gold to the “Merc with a Mouth” himself, Deadpool. Another great new addition to the lineup is Maya. A new player skin with unique customizable options. Each particular option is unlocked through completing a specific challenge week to week.
From shirt and pant colors to accessories and face paint there are multiple ways to make your Maya unique. To access Maya’s looks a player will need to own this season’s Battle Pass, then from the new Headquarters click the “Upgrade Vault” option in the upper right-hand section. This will lead you directly into Maya’s upgrade room.
Customizing Maya in Fortnite
Inside the Upgrade Vault, players can browse each specific unlockable option and see what works best for their Maya’s taste. Even if the challenge is not available, players will have access to all of the options available. One very important note is that once a specific challenge is completed and a style chosen, it will be permanently locked onto Maya. There is no option to switch things around once the choice is made. Be sure that the style you choose is the style you plan to keep.
Maya’s Fortnite Challenge Week 1: Hairstyle
The week 1 challenge unlocks Maya’s hairstyle customizations.
Challenge: Achieve AR Specialist by dealing 250 damage with Assault Rifles in a single match (5)
To achieve this challenge a player is going to want to simply focus on using the Assault Rifles. Standard or Burst ARs will count towards the challenge. Once a player has gone 5 matches with at least 250 points worth of damage with an AR, they will have access to Maya’s multiple hairdos.
Maya’s Fortnite Challenge Week 2: Tattoos
The week 2 challenge unlocks Maya’s tattoo customizations.
Challenge: Place top 20 in a match (5)
Another fairly straight forward challenge, simply stay alive and place in the top 20 for 5 full matches. This can be done in a variety of ways. The first and easiest way is to find a hideout and stay there. This is called “camping” and is generally looked down upon in multiplayer games but it is an effective way to last longer in a game. Many houses have attics that are good places to camp out due to the lack of windows, this creates a single entry point that a player needs to keep an eye on. If the storm circle moves simply gather yourself and find another spot to hide. Once completed, players will have access to multiple tattoo designs to adorn Maya’s arms.
Maya’s Fortnite Challenge Week 3: Sleeves
The week 3 challenge unlocks Maya’s sleeve customizations.
Challenge: Achieve Pistol Specialist by dealing 150 damage with Pistols in a single match (5)
This one is exactly like the AR Specialist Challenge from week one. Only this time players need to focus their damage-dealing on Pistols. Doing this is five different matches will give players access to three different sleeve styles for Maya.
Maya’s Fortnite Challenge Week 4: Boots
The week 4 challenge unlocks Maya’s boots customization.
Challenge: Get Bronze Battle Medals by getting an Elimimination in solo, duo or squads (5)
The original requirement of getting a Gold Battle Medal has been altered mid-week to only needing a Bronze. The best way to do this is to jump out of the bus immediately when available and go into the battle headlong and ready to kill. Precision and patience will be required to win this one. Completing this challenge will unlock four different styles of boots for Maya.
Maya’s Fortnite Challenge Week 5: Shirt Colors
The week 5 challenge unlocks Maya’s shirt color customizations.
Challenge: Achieve Shotgun Specialist by dealing 250 damage with Shotguns in a single match (5)
Much like Week 3’s Pistol specialist challenge, focus on utilizing the shotgun every match and this will be an easy get. Completing this challenge will give the player 16 different shirt styles to choose from for Maya.
Maya’s Fortnite Challenge Week 6: Vest
The week 6 challenge unlocks Maya’s vest customizations.
Challenge: Get Silver Survival Medals by surviving until 25 players remain (5)
The point of this challenge is to stay alive. There are many good ways to attack this task, the easiest is to simply hide until only 25 players remain. Completing this challenge will unlock four different vests to choose from for Maya.
Maya’s Fortnite Challenge Week 7: Helmet
The week 7 challenge unlocks Maya’s helmet customizations.
Challenge: Get SMG Specialist by dealing 150 damage to players using an SMG (5)
Just like many weeks prior, the weapon specialization is an easy one to complete. Grab the SMG and focus the weapon onto the enemies. Completing this challenge will give players access to five different helmets and hats for Maya.
Maya’s Fortnite Challenge Week 8: Pants Color
The week 8 challenge unlocks Maya’s pants color customizations.
Challenge: Get Silver Scavenger Medals by searching Chests, Llamas, or Supply Drops (5)
Scavenger Medals are achieved by simply searching everything the player comes across. Completing this challenge will allow players to choose from eight different colored pants for Maya.
Maya’s Fortnite Challenge Week 9: Face Paint
The week 9 challenge unlocks Maya’s face paint customizations.
Challenge: Outlast 500 opponents (500)
This challenge really only requires that the player play the game. The number continues to add up throughout plays and will be completed whenever a player outlasts the proper amount of other players. Once completed, this challenge will unlock five different styles of face paint for Maya.
Completing All of Maya’s Fortnite Challenges
After the player completes all 9 weeks of Maya’s challenges they will gain access to add Maya’s scarf. There are multiple color options available as well as choosing a custom color.
There it is, all that hard work pays off in your own custom Maya. Character customization is always a welcome addition to any game and Fortnite is showing that they can do it with the best of them. As of right now, all the challenges are not accessible but as they become available we will continue to update this page.
