A Battle Royale mode for Forza Horizon 4 is indeed a real thing, and it’s coming very soon. The Forza games have long been regarded as some of the very best in the racing genre. But in recent years, battle royales have dominated the market, so much so that many developers have added the mode to their games. For example, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 added a Battle Royale to compete with the likes of Fortnite and PlayerUnkown’s Battleground back in 2018.

Development for the Forza franchise is split between two developers. Turn 10 Studios helms development for the mainline Forza Motorsport games, while Playground Games produces Forza Horizon. Whereas the Motorsport games are more geared to car aficionado’s and car-sim purists, Horizon is a more casual open-world alternative.  The most recent title in the series is Forza Horizon 4, a game that was called “The Best Open World Racing Game In Years.” Although the games graphics are ultra-realistic, Horizon 4 isn’t afraid to be a little cartoonish. Earlier this year, Forza Horizon 4 got a LEGO Speed Champions Expansion, in which player models and vehicles were swapped out for LEGO’s.

Forza Horizon 4’s Battle Royale mode is called “The Eliminator” which was revealed via the official Forza Horizon 4 Twitter. The trailer begins with an armada of vehicles ascending up a cliff before cutting to a graphic explaining that this is indeed a Forza Battle Royale. The Eliminator will be a 72 player mode, which will require drivers to “stay inside the zone,” similarly to other Battle Royale games. The trailer also says there will be some form of “head to head” racing within “The Eliminator.”

Not much else is known about the mode other than that, although the trailer says “The Eliminator” will be coming completely free to owners of the game. Last year, Forza Motorsport 7 came under fire for its inclusion of loot boxes. That issue was rectified however and kept out of Horizon 4. It’s great to see such a substantial update coming free to the series just a year after.

Now is a good time to jump into the racing action, as Forza Horizon 4 is included in Xbox Game Pass for consoles and PC. Horizon 4 is lots of fun, no matter your experience with racing games. Whether driving through low-lit city streets or mud and sleet in the countryside, there’s just tons of scenic beauty to take in. That being said, it remains to be seen just how well Forza will work as a Battle Royale. One thing that is clear however is that developer Playground Games isn’t afraid to push the boundaries of the racing genre.
